A fond tribute to post-war suburbia
In 2011, Aesop Bondi Junction was conceived as the first of twinned Sydney spaces located five kilometres apart; its complement was Aesop Pitt Street. For the store’s re-birth six years on, our in-house Design Department and collaborating architect Kian Yam of MLKK Studio drew on an affection for the ordinary, taking cues from the domestic post-war architecture of surrounding suburbs.

The design allows various familiar references to be seen anew—from suburban back-yard clotheslines and the orderly aisles of local hardware stores to modest Laminex-topped kitchen tables and stainless steel sinks—and embodies a typically dry Australian humour. Furniture designed by mid-century architect and writer Robin Boyd provides apt accents.
